Supreme Court actually decides the right way

Short version: The Supremes ruled that, when judges disagree with the different sentences meted out for possession of crack and powder cocaine, they are free to depart from the sentencing guidelines. Such departures should be treated with deference. And trading a gun for drugs does not constitute "using" a firearm in the course of a drug offense.
