In which my big nose fascinates you while I sound off on the economy

Watch yours truly make a fool of himself in a new video from Purplestates.tv:

Purplestates.tv is running a video and a matching discussion, mostly about economic issues, from bloggers in each of the 50 states. It's an interesting project, with the potential to be picked up by the major media, since the company's earlier work has appeared on the Websites of the New York Times and the Washington Post.

Nice vid. I came over to Purple States. I find you present a compelling arguement that looks nothing like my reality. I saw a country where the President came on the TV after 9/11 and said it was our patriotic duty to spend, I saw TV shows about flipping houses, I saw stagmant wages - and that if you didn't take money out of your house to invest you were a fool - And Wall Street was running this great con. Isn't it some's job to police this - or else we have anarchy - AyeCaramba

AyeCaramba,

I posted a response over at Purplestates.tv (I want to keep the conversation in one place so we don't go nuts chasing responses back and forth). But you ask, "isn't it somebody's job to police this"?

The obvious answer is, to police who? As bad as business people can misbehave, they get punished in the stock market and ultimately in their wallets. But who polices the supposed policemen -- the likes of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd -- who paved the way for the mortgage meltdown by pushing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, creatures of the government, to transform the mortgage market in financially senseless but politically popular ways?
