Audi, the Schindler of our eco-totalitarian future

If you're like me, Audi's Green Police ad during yesterday's Superbowl was sort of a high point of creepiness -- and not just for its boomerific revival of a classic Cheap Trick song. No, the celebration of the right car purchase -- a "clean diesel" -- as a get-out-of jail-free card for a totalitarian eco-state sort of ruined car shopping for you while also hinting a bit too strongly at the direction in which the world is inching in its intolerant, lemming-like way.

Our friends in Britain already have to worry about government snoops pawing through their garbage and forcing their way onto private property to make sure residents of that unfortunate country are separating their glass from their plastic and doing business in officially approved ways. Maybe ... just maybe ... we're not that far off from the day when buying the the "correct" brand will count as a pass at roadblocks staffed by armed recycling fanatics.

I guess the only question is whether Audi thinks this potential Brave New fluorescently lit World is a good thing, or whether the company is warning us that it, Schindler-like, is our only hope.

The Audi advertisement glimpse of our eco-conscious (or else) future is below.

Creeped me out, too, JD. Almost as much as the Obama interview in the middle of the pre-game show. I was thinking, "Don't these guys ever take a break?"

I've heard both ant-eater and aardvark -- I don't know enough to say either way. But it's pretty funny.

While I've never been even remotely interested in Audi's vehicles, I can say with absolute certainty now that I'd revert to horseback or cycling before I'd ever even consider buying anything that company produces.

Far from merely "creepy", that Audi Superbowl ad was one of the most disgusting and offensive things I've ever seen in TV advertising. I only hope that a sufficient percentage of the few people in Amerika with enough disposable income left to spend on a new vehicle are similarly repelled and will convince Audi of the error of its ways.

Almost perfect, the only thing not made clear is that the Green Police are a trans-national entity that owes no allegiance to any individual country or system of law.

In UK, if you trace back the green regulations they get into British law from the UN via EU directives. There is no effective accountability to the electorate (serfs/wage slaves) in the process.

It's kind of the story of States right's vs the Fedgod as it all went bad over 200 years but on a worldwide scale involving countries.

Re my last: come to think of it, the fact the Green Policeman was discipling a regular Police Officer does clue you in to the state of over-arching authority.
